Curves and dynamic expressions that cannot be expressed by LED

Fiber Optics Suitable for Psychotherapy, Demand from Education and Treatment Facilities

Yeongwon Tech (CEO Lee Young-kyu), a company specializing in optical fiber, is catching the attention of tourists with its landscape lighting using optical fiber.

Founded in 1991, Yeongwon Tech presents a variety of designs that LED landscape lighting cannot express by incorporating fiber optic lighting, which was mainly used for interior design, into landscape lighting.

Although it has only been seven years since optical fiber began to be applied to landscape lighting, the company explained that it has carried out more than 100 projects in local governments across the country.

Optical fiber is a material with different densities and refractive indices so that total reflection can be achieved without loss of light. As only light is transmitted, there is no electrical risk such as short circuit and discharge, and it is not affected by the surrounding environment such as temperature and humidity.

In particular, unlike LEDs, curved designs and dynamic color changes that are difficult to express with LED lights are possible because the light emitting part is small and there is no risk of damage. Thanks to this, it has been widely applied to local landmark buildings and has been well received by local governments and tourists.

This is why Yeongwon Tech's delicate landscape lighting is drawing more attention as local governments have recently focused on developing local tourism products to curb the growing demand for domestic tourism due to COVID-19.

In particular, as the local government's landscape lighting trend, which was focused on "night view" to induce tourists to stay, has changed to the stance that it should be able to provide attractions even during the day, the characteristics of optical fibers that can be bonded with various sculptures are shining more.

Representatively, Yeongwon Tech has developed a new landscape lighting that combines wood sculptures and optical fibers in Daegu Metropolitan City, Yanggu-gu, Gangwon-do, and Asan City, Chungcheongnam-do, drawing favorable reviews from tourists.

This landscape lighting can serve as a night view at night and as a sculpture during the day by applying a delicate fiber-optic design to a wooden sculpture.

Installing lighting on ordinary trees negatively affects the plant's biological cycle, and as the tree grows, it changes into a different shape than the designer's previous intention, so we created a separate wooden sculpture to solve the problem.

Another advantage is that it can provide attractions to the audience even during the day in that it is a sculpture.

In addition, demand for fiber-optic lighting is also increasing in educational facilities and treatment facilities as it has recently been highlighted that fiber-optic communication is suitable for psychotherapy without strain on the eyes.

Shim Jae-oh, head of Youngwon Tech, said, "Unlike LEDs, fiber optic lighting is suitable for treating depression and stabilizing the mind and body because it does not have glare and gives a warm feeling. Since it was originally used as an interior, demand is increasing in educational facilities and treatment facilities."
